Students at the college compete in a range of sporting events throughout Islington. The PE department offer students the opportunity to perform and excel in as many sporting events as possible. The examples below show just the some of the students success in sport.
Angelica Wynter won key stage 4 sportswomen of the year and collected £100 pounds towards her training. Angelica trains very hard for athletic events, winning many competitions in and outside of school. The Mount Carmel dance group also performed at the awards evening. This was a very proud moment for students and staff at Mount Carmel Sports Day 2012.
Students in Year 7 have taken part in the Islington Schools’ Sports Athletics league at St Aloysius’ College. We are currently in second place overall. Well done to all students involved for their hard work and dedication.
Congratulations to Larissa Fonseca, Georgina Buckle(10EP), Olive Mumbaya (10RP) and Margy Yekeye (10AF) who competed in the Islington Schools KS4 Badminton tournament at COLAI on Monday 12th November. The squad finished in third place – well done!
Students in Years 7 and 8 competed in Islington basketball competition. After only training together for a few weeks, the team finished in second place. They played a great game showing determination and fantastic team work. Well done to the following girls: Klaudia Pochylska, Ann Kamara, Semret Tewolde, Lashai Modest, Leonilde Bernardo, Mercedes Gomez, Josephine Brefo, and Evelynn Sarmaah.
Year 8 students recently took part in an indoor cricket competition at Highbury Grove School. Out of all of the schools in Islington our students came 3rd which was a great success.
Students from years 7 to 10 represented Mount Carmel in the Islington Cross Country Championships in Finsbury Park. The College team came second place overall out of all Islington Schools.
Every student put 100% into their running so well done to all.
Priscilla Montanez (Access to Sports project) delivered free taster football sessions during PE lessons to selected groups last half term. Football club starts on 3rd December. This is an open session but particularly aimed at Y7 and Y8 students who have been entered into the Arsenal Community Schools tournament which takes place on 28th February 2013. The winning school will represent Arsenal FC at the Premier League Schools Tournament National Finals in May 2013!
Mount Carmel students have won the Islington schools gymnastics competition held at the Sobel Leisure Centre.
The students showed true sportsmanship and commitment to the competition and competed at a high standard whilst showing excellent technical skills on the day.

Mount Carmel Street Dance Club were invited to perform in the Clore Ballroom at London South Bank Centre. Our dance team put in a lot of effort and hard work to create a street dance piece. Our team performed alongside 20 other dance groups from all around London in the UDance show. A huge well done to Olivia Smith, Elif Bozdere, Milen Rosum, Melissa Cankiran, Katherine Tuitel.
Year 7 students took part in a Tag Rugby Competition at Paradise Park. The girls played against local secondary schools in Islington, wining every match and now are the overall champions of Islington 2012 at Tag Rugby.
