Stock Market Challenge
Published on 21 June 2012
On the 19th June 2012 a group of 5 Year 9 students from Mount Carmel went to participate in the Stock Market Challenge at the City University London. This course was sponsored by HSBC. The participants were Saron Dawit, Rahel Aklilu, Shakeelah Khanom, Larissa Fonseca and Agatha Avila Xavier.
During the event, the students experienced, through a simulated game, how a stock market operates and what the factors are that influence the stock price. They also found out about when the best time to buy or sell stocks and shares. There was also a presentation by the students and teachers of the City University explaining the various courses offered by them and their requirements.
The course was quite helpful for students who are planning to study business and economics. As a participant school Mount Carmel has been given a one year free access to online resources to the Stock Market game. This will be a very useful resource for the students as it can help them understand the practical implementation of their academic knowledge.
The accompanying teachers Mr Rauf and Mrs McKenzie were very proud of how our students conducted themselves and performed on the day.
